| ca_ES |

| dc.description.abstract | Taking up the myth of metamorphosis, Alexandre Dumas stages the physical, intellectual, social and psychic transformation of Edouard Dantès into the Count of Monte Cristo. Having learned the truth behind his imprisonment from the Abbot Faria, and the destructivity inherent to the human condition, the “good boy” Dantès metamorphoses into a relentless avenger. An incandescent flame, vengeance here is no gloomy passion but an active substance driving the hero and maintaining him young. Wounded in his very being and delegating none of his vengeance to the courts - which would merely sanction a disregard of the law - he sets about healing a narcissistic wound and restoring his dignity. Exemplary, disturbing, always “mysterious”, the “strange traveller” fascinates: strangeness is the “spice of beauty”. | ca_ES |
