- ItemOpen AccessOperation in the field: site-specific management using variable rate technologies(New Ag International SARL, 2018-10-01) Escolà i Agustí, Alexandre; Arnó Satorra, Jaume; Martínez Casasnovas, José AntonioThe last stage in the Precision Agriculture (PA) cycle is implementing the decisions made in the fields or orchards. From the first Precision Ag Corner (New Ag International 64, in Nov-Dec 2016), we described the different stages, equipment, techniques and methodologies to make more informed management decisions. Whenever a non-uniform management strategy decision is made, site-specific management solutions are to be considered. In this issue, we review the different available options to put PA into practice either using conventional machinery or using hi-tech equipment, known as Variable Rate Technologies (VRT). Additionally, new trends are also depicted for future agricultural practices. New Ag International has partnered with the Research Group on AgroICT & Precision Agriculture (GRAP) of the University of Lleida-Agrotecnio Center in Catalonia, Spain. In every issue of the magazine Alexandre Escolà, Jaume Arnó and José A. Martínez-Casasnovas, with our Editorial Team, are putting together an editorial whose ambition is to help the various stakeholders bridge the gap between datanomics and commercial farming!
- ItemOpen AccessOperación en el campo: gestión en terrenos específicos utilizando tecnologías de aplicación variable(New Ag International SARL, 2018-10-15) Escolà i Agustí, Alexandre; Arnó Satorra, Jaume; Martínez Casasnovas, José AntonioLa última etapa del ciclo de Agricultura de Precisión (AP) consiste en implementar las decisiones tomadas en los campos o huertos.Desde el primer artículo de la sección 'Precision Ag Corner' (NewAg International 64, en nov-dic 2016), describimos las diferentes etapas, equipos, técnicas y metodologías para tomar decisiones de gestión más informadas. Siempre que se toman decisiones sobre estrategias de manejo no uniforme en el campo, se deben considerar soluciones de manejo específicas para cada terreno. En este número se revisarán las diferentes opciones disponibles para la puesta en práctica de la AP, ya sea con maquinaria convencional o con equipos de alta tecnología, conocidos como Tecnologías de Velocidad Variable (VRT, por su sigla en inglés). Además, también se describen nuevas tendencias para futuras prácticas agrícolas. New Ag International se ha asociado con el Grupo de Investigación en AgróTICa y Agricultura de Precisión (GRAP) de la Universitat de Lleida-Agrotecnio Center, en Cataluña, España. En cada número de la revista, Alexandre Escolà, Jaume Arnó y José A. Martínez-Casasnovas, junto con nuestro equipo, están elaborando un editorial cuya ambición es ayudar a los diferentes grupos de interés a salvar la brecha entre la datanómica y la agricultura comercial.

Is it worth investing in all the technologies described in the previous issues? Is it profitable investing in the training and education required to understand and manage PA solutions? Jaume Arnó, José A. Martínez-Casasnovas and Alexandre Escolà from the Research Group on AgroICT & Precision Agriculture (GRAP) of the University of Lleida-Agrotecnio Center will provide clues to answer these questions.

- ItemOpen AccessPrecision Agriculture: What's behind the name?(New Ag International SARL, 2016-11-15) Arnó Satorra, Jaume; Escolà i Agustí, Alexandre; Martínez Casasnovas, José AntonioIn recent years, the term Precision Agriculture (PA) has been referred and discussed many times in agricultural exhibitions and conferences, professional meetings, magazines and cafés. Other forms are also used either by specifying the crop where it is applied, e.g. Precision Viticulture, or by using fancy names such as Smart Agriculture, Smart Farming or Digital Agriculture. In the academia, the evolution in the publication of scientific documents containing the terms 'Precision Agriculture or Farming' or 'Smart Agriculture or Farming' has been astonishing, starting with 0 documents in 1995 to more than 2,250 in 2015! The practice of PA largely refers to the rational use of agricultural inputs. To help us run our PA section in the magazine, New Ag International has partnered with one of the leaders in Europe: The Research Group on AgroICT & Precision Agriculture (GRAP) of the University of Lleida-Agrotecnio Center in Catalonia, Spain.
