dc.description.abstract	In the Late Middle Ages, artillery became a key element of military tactics. Monarchy, nobility and government institutions were aware of the need to employ the services of craftsmen specialised in the art of building, repairing and using firearms. This study analyses the working and professional reality of these craftsmen using the biography of the Barcelona foundryman and cannon maker, Joan Palou. The numerous written sources located in the Historical Archive of the City and in the Archive of Notarial Protocols, have made it possible to trace a detailed portrait of his professional activity —and thus, of the first cannon makers— in the early days of artillery making. The inventory of his widow’s goods, made in 1526 and transcribed at the end of the article, offers a detailed description of the craftsman’s workshop and his work tools, of his personal property and real estate and of the documentary archive he kept in a corner of his house.	ca_ES
dc.description.abstract	En la Baja Edad Media, la artillería se convirtió en un elemento clave de la táctica militar. Monarquía, nobleza e instituciones de gobierno se apresaron a tener a su servicio artesanos especializados en el arte de construir, reparar y usar armas de fuego. El presente trabajo analiza la realidad laboral y profesional de esos artífices a partir de la biografía del fundidor y bombardero barcelonés, Joan Palou. Las numerosas fuentes escritas localizadas en el Archivo Histórico de la Ciudad y en el Archivo de Protocolos Notariales, han permitido trazar un minucioso retrato de su actividad profesional —y, por extensión, de los primeros bombarderos— en los albores de la artillería. El inventario de bienes de su viuda, efectuado en 1526 y transcrito al final del artículo, ofrece una detallada descripción del taller y los útiles de trabajo del artesano, de los bienes muebles e inmuebles que tenía en propiedad y del archivo documental que conservaba en un rincón de su casa.	ca_ES
