| dc.description.abstract | Este trabajo pretende mostrar cómo la evolución que el arte figurativo experimenta desde el románico al gótico está directamente condicionada por la evolución paralela que en el pensamiento cristiano se produce del platonismo al aristotelismo. En el románico, la iconografía característica, que gira en torno al Pantocrátor (representación de una teofanía del Salvador), incide en los aspectos mistéricos y trascendentales de la religión. Se trata de mostrar lo inefable de la divinidad para lo cual se recurre a un lenguaje simbólico y abstracto. Ello se debe a la influencia del platonismo de teólogos como Juan Escoto Erígena. En el gótico, por el contrario, el artista vuelca su mirada hacia lo concreto y lo humano. Incluso cuando se trata de representar a las personas divinas se prefiere la humanidad de Cristo antes que su glorificación, adoptando para ello un estilo naturalista. Este viraje se debe a cambios profundos en la sociedad medieval entre los que destaca la importancia creciente de los centros urbanos y la aparición de las universidades. El pensamiento escolástico desarrollado en las universidades permite precisar con gran finura el concepto de persona humana en sus fines transcendentales, concluyendo que la plenitud humana se alcanza con la vida de santidad. Por ello el arte gótico va a priorizar la iconografía de los santos a los que presenta como modelos humanos y cercanos al espectador, situándolos en un ambiente realista. En definitiva, pensamiento y arte abandonan parcialmente los aspectos mistéricos para orientarse a una religión y una piedad más humanas. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This paper aims to show how the evolution of figurative art from Romanesque to Gothic is directly conditioned by the parallel evolution of Christian thought from Platonism to Aristotelianism. The characteristic Romanesque iconography revolving around the Pantocrator (representation of a theophany of the Saviour) emphasises the mystical and transcendental aspects of religion. The aim is to show the ineffable nature of the divinity, for which a symbolic and abstract style is used. This is due to the Platonist influence of theologians such as John Scotus Erigena. On the other hand, the Gothic artist turns his gaze towards the earthly and human aspect of religion. Even when it came to depicting Christ, artists favoured his humanity over his glorification, and a naturalistic style was adopted. This shift was due to profound changes in medieval society, including the growing importance of urban centres and the emergence of universities. Scholastic philosophers defined the human person with such finesse that even his transcendental aim could be clarified, concluding that human fulfilment is achieved through a life of holiness. For this reason, Gothic art prioritised the iconography of the saints, presenting them as human models close to the viewer, placing them in a realistic environment. Ultimately, thought and art partially abandoned the mystical aspects in favour of a more human religion and piety. | |
