Advances in thermal energy storage for renewable energies integration in the energy system

Thermal energy storage (TES) is a key technology to reach a real renewable sources integration in the energy system, helping in the energy transition that the world is facing nowadays. Advances in TES in all areas related to renewable energies are shown in this special issue, with the aim of providing answers to scientists and practitioners who may need such knowledge. This special issue only includes invited papers from a total of 104 papers presented at the Eurotherm Seminar #112 conference that took place between May 15-17, 2019 at the University of Lleida, Spain. The Seminar brought together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry working on topics related to TES. Recent trends in TES for renewable energy systems, as well as novel storage materials and advanced storage concepts and configurations communicated during the conference, are featured in the papers selected for this special issue.
