Can Precision Agriculture be profitable?
MetadataShow full item record
After eight Precision Ag Corner columns reviewing the different tools for precision agriculture (PA) taking part in the different stages of the PA cycle, it is time to assess its profitability. Is it worth investing in all the technologies described in the previous issues? Is it profitable investing in the training and education required to understand and manage PA solutions? Jaume Arnó, José A. Martínez-Casasnovas and Alexandre Escolà from the Research Group on AgroICT & Precision Agriculture (GRAP) of the University of Lleida-Agrotecnio Center will provide clues to answer these questions.

Mapping vineyard leaf area using mobile terrestrial laser scanners: should rows be scanned on-the-go or discontinuosly sampled? Moral Martínez, Ignacio del; Rosell Polo, Joan Ramon; Company Mesa, Joaquim; Sanz Cortiella, Ricardo; Escolà i Agustí, Alexandre; Masip Vilalta, Joan; Martínez Casasnovas, José Antonio; Arnó Satorra, Jaume (Molecular Diversity Preservation International, 2016-01-19)The leaf area index (LAI) is defined as the one-side leaf area per unit ground area, and is probably the most widely used index to characterize grapevine vigor. However, LAI varies spatially within vineyard plots. Mapping ...
Mobile terrestrial laser scanner applications in precision fruticulture/ horticulture and tools to extract information from canopy point clouds Escolà i Agustí, Alexandre; Martínez Casasnovas, José Antonio; Rufat i Lamarca, Josep; Arnó Satorra, Jaume; Arbonés, Amadeu; Sebé Feixas, Francesc; Pascual Roca, Miquel; Gregorio López, Eduard; Rosell Polo, Joan Ramon (Springer Science+Business Media, 2017-01-01)LiDAR sensors are widely used in many areas and, in recent years, that includes agricultural tasks. In this work, a self-developed mobile terrestrial laser scanner based on a 2D light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor ...
Apparent electrical conductivity and multivariate analysis of soil properties to assess soil constraints in orchards affected by previous parcelling Uribeetxebarria Alonso de Armiño, Asier; Arnó Satorra, Jaume; Escolà i Agustí, Alexandre; Martínez Casasnovas, José Antonio (Elsevier, 2018)Fruit production is relevant to the European agricultural sector. However, orchards in semi-arid areas of southern Europe may contain soils with constraints for tree development. This is the case of soils with high CaCO3 ...
