El Grup estudia: 1) Diferenciació entre trasudats i exudats pleurals: criteris de Light, paràmetres bioquímics alternatius i mètodes Bayesians; 2) Diferenciació entre vessaments pleurals tuberculosos i malignes: dades clíniques i paràmetres immunològics del líquid pleural; 3) Identificació dels vessaments pleurals paraneumònics complicats: dades del líquid pleural que indiquen una mala evolució; 4) Diagnòstic del vessament pleural maligne: estudis citològics, marcadors tumorals i tècniques de biologia molecular en el líquid pleural; 5) Sistema de pleurodesi ràpida en el tractament del vessament pleural maligne; 6) Comparació de distints agents sinfisants en el tractament del vessament pleural maligne; 7) Estudi comparatiu de distints fibrinolítics intrapleurals en el vessament pleural paraneumònic complicat i l'empiema.
